Advent: Day 9

Jesse Tree: Joseph and God's Providence

Genesis 37: 1-36; 50: 15-21

Sometimes even love cannot protect us from bad things. Joseph was loved very much by his father, Israel (Jacob), but Joseph's brothers hated him. And so they sold him to a man who made him a servant and even put him in prison.

But God had given Joseph a special gift of understanding dreams, and Joseph was able to use his special gift to help others. He was rewarded for his help by being given a very important job. While he was doing this job, he again met his brothers, who did not recognize him. Even though Joseph could have been mean to his brothers, he chose to help them. He knew that even though he had gone through some terrible times, God had been with him through everything, and God still expected him to do good things.

Activity Advent: Ice fishing! (finally)

Well, this morning it was a balmy -15 and my dear hub says enthusiastically "We should go ice fishing today!"

"Uhhhh... it's freaking freezing."

I agreed to go in the afternoon, although I was really hoping to come up with a really great inside activity by then... but I napped instead. So we went ice fishing. I think it warmed up to about -8 by the time we went out. You know, 'warm' as my hub would say... did I mention he had a head injury when we were first married?

intense fishing

Heeeere fishy fishy fishy

Ok, Dad work your magic!

Cheesy grin

Ok, so H was laughing because Maggie was chasing snowballs and he thought it was hilarious, A is actually making a snow angel... but it's just so much better to pretend that's not what's going on at all... at least in my head anyways.

My turn with A's rod

Another great parenting example: H biffed it right onto his face while throwing snowballs for Maggie (the snow is really crunchy and hard too) ... we laughed...nice parents...

A with her "Margie" we've been calling her Maggie for 6 years.. A prefers "Margie"

Going back home. A wanted to go the 'long way'

H got the money ride

And this, of course, is the result of the 'long way'...
